A Muscatine County man pleaded guilty to theft in connection with a case involving damage and burglary to a disabled car.

Aaron Sindt, 19, of Montpelier, Iowa pleaded guilty to second-degree theft Friday, July 27, 2012.

Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren said Sindt “participated in the theft of items from a vehicle which had broken down mechanically.”

Sindt was originally also charged with criminal mischief and with using a juvenile to commit an indictable offense.  He and Nicolas Hanssen, 19, were accused of giving alcohol and a share of the items stolen to a 15-year-old boy in exchange for the boy’s participation in the burglary.  The three allegedly broke windows out of the car and stole items from inside the vehicle February 5, 2012.

Court records show Hanssen was sentenced July 13, 2012 to three years of probation plus civil penalties and fines after he pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief.

Sindt had not yet been sentenced.
