East Moline firefighter charged with possessing, promoting child pornography in Scott County

The Scott County Sheriff's Office arrested Kyle Duprey, 35, Wednesday on three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A LeClaire man who works as a firefighter in East Moline is facing three counts of sexually exploiting a minor by possessing and promoting child pornography.

A press release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Kyle Duprey was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Scott County Jail. Online jail records say he was in custody for 89 minutes before he posted a $15,000 bond.

News 8 initially determined that Duprey works for the East Moline Fire Department through his social media posts and the East Moline staff directory. The City would later confirm his employment.

The investigation into Duprey began on Nov. 4 after the sheriff's office received a tip from the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This task force works with state and local law enforcement agencies to investigate cyber enticement and child pornography cases.

Investigators found enough evidence against Duprey to press charges. According to the criminal complaint, Duprey allegedly sent a video of a "prepubescent" girl and an unknown man engaged in a sexual encounter via Kik Messenger.

A search warrant conducted found the video on Duprey's Kik Messenger account confirmed the video was sent from him. The affidavit did not disclose to who he sent it.

The City of East Moline released an official statement on Nov. 17, which reads:

On November 16th,2022, the East Moline Police Department and East Moline Fire Department were advised about a criminal investigation involving East Moline Firefighter Kyle Duprey that was being conducted by the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Scott County Sheriff's Department. It was also advised that Duprey was arrested on this date by the Scott County Sheriff's Department on criminal charges for 3 felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor - Promotes Materials.

The City of East Moline takes these criminal accusations very seriously and has been and will continue to cooperate with the investigation. Fire Chief Rob DeFrance has placed Duprey on administrative leave at this time as there is reason to believe Duprey may have violated criminal law along with department policy and standards. There will be a full internal investigation conducted into this incident at the appropriate time.

We have full confidence in the criminal justice system. Duprey will be afforded his right to a fair trial and if the allegations against him are proven true, he will face the consequences. There is no further information to provide at this time.
