A man apprehended in Davenport, after he allegedly abducted his stepdaughter in Solon, had a few choice words for the judge during his appearance in Johnson County, Iowa Court.

Kenneth Johns, 48, faced parole violation and domestic abuse charges filed against him in February 2015. Johns was also suspected of taking his 10-year-old stepdaughter from a relative’s home in Solon, Iowa on Saturday, March 7, 2015, triggering an Amber Alert issued as police searched for the girl.

The child was returned safely to police in Cedar County, and Johns was arrested after a standoff with police in Davenport early Sunday, March 8. He was later sent to Johnson County to face outstanding charges. Johns was booked into the jail there Monday, March 9, and he got into a fight with another inmate according to a sheriff’s deputy’s criminal complaint alleging assault on another person.

“I opened the door to A Block and ordered all inmates to their cells, during which Mr. Johns entered Cell 2 and an altercation ensued between him and another inmate,” the complaint said. “During this fight, Johns bit another inmate on the upper-left thigh, causing bruising and slight bleeding.”

During his court appearance on the assault charge and previously-filed charges Tuesday, March 10, Johns was ordered to have no contact with his alleged victim. Johns asked the judge when someone would be charged for assaulting him. “Does this look like I’ve been assaulted?” Johns asked. “Look at my face.”

When the judge asked him if he had any questions, Johns responded by spitting on his copies of the complaints filed against him, and saying, “I’m done speaking to you, I’m done speaking to anybody else about this matter.”

No decision was made yet on what charges might be filed in connection with the alleged abduction and Amber Alert. Johns remained held without bond.
