FULTON, Illinois — The city of Fulton’s mayor, Larry Russell, has been charged with theft and official misconduct, according to court records. Both charges are felonies.
Court documents allege that in April 2016, Russell used his position as mayor to write himself a check from the city’s funds for $764 intended for personal use.
The charges were filed Thursday, Aug. 11.
Russell has been charged but is not in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9.
The city of Fulton’s website has Russell listed as the mayor of Fulton from May 2013 to April 2017.
