Father arrested for aggravated battery after infant hospitalized

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — The East Moline Police Department is investigating a case of suspected child abuse that has left a 3-month-old infant in the hospital with serious injuries.

The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday, Oct. 3 when the infant was transported from a residence in the 4500 block of 7th Street to a regional hospital in critical condition. Following a tip from the Illinois Department of Child & Family Services, East Moline police determined that the infant sustained serious, life-threatening injuries that were deemed suspicious.

Officials have arrested the infant's father, identified as 23-year-old Damontinez D. Pierre, and charged him with aggravated battery of a child, a Class X Felony.

Pierre was arrested in Peoria and is awaiting extradition to Rock Island County.

The infant is no longer in critical condition but remains hospitalized.
