A driver was badly injured when he lost control of his car and overturned it in Hancock County.
The crash, which was reported before 6 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, happened in Carthage, Illinois on County Road 1800 E, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.
The driver, 26-year-old Cody L. Twaddle, was heading westbound on the roadway when his Chevy pickup went off the right side of the road, police said. Twaddle dipped into a ditch on the north side of the road, then came back across both lanes of traffic, and continued into a ditch on the south side of the road. The pickup went into a wire fence and overturned before finally stopping.
Police said Twaddle was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. There were no other passengers in the pickup.
Twaddle faced several charges from the crash, including improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, not wearing a seatbelt, illegal transportation of open alcoholic beverage container, and no proof of insurance, according to police. Additional charges were possible in the future.
