DAVENPORT, Iowa — UPDATE: On Feb. 21, 2024, the Iowa District Court for Scott County filed a motion to dismiss the charges against Lira.
A Davenport elementary school teacher was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 16 after police say he engaged in indecent contact with a child.
According to court records, 35-year-old Julian Lira was charged with one count of indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in prison. According to court records, police say that Lira touched a child inappropriately during an October incident that took place at Credit Island Lodge.
Lira posted a $2,000 bond and will appear in a Scott County court on Tuesday.
In a separate 2019 incident, Lira was charged with second-degree sexual abuse. According to court records, Lira engaged "in a sex act with a minor under the age of twelve years old." Lira was found not guilty of the sexual abuse charge in Sept. 2022.
During the jury's reading of the verdict, eight court spectators were found in contempt of court and fined.
According to the Davenport Community School District staff directory, Lira is listed as a sixth-grade teacher at Jackson Elementary School.
