DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man has been sentenced in federal court to more than 12 years in prison for enticing a minor, according to court documents.

John Michael Riepe, 31, is sentenced to 151 months in prison, will serve 10 years of supervised release and is ordered to comply with sex offender registry requirements. He is also to have no contact with minors under the age of 18.

Riepe was found guilty of the charge in August 2015 following a trial. Riepe had sent a letter to a student at Pleasant Valley High School with his picture and a phone number. The letter was turned over to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. A detective acted as a minor and exchanged messages with Riepe, who suggested the two meet and have sex.

Riepe was arrested when he arrived at the pick up location in October 2014.

Additional evidence showed that Riepe had tried to contact other minors with the same intention, and that he had been banned from area high schools grounds.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the United States Marshal Service, Bettendorf and Davenport police departments and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
