DAVENPORT, Iowa — The suspect in a bizarre pedestrian-versus-car incident in downtown Davenport this September is now in custody.

Police say Deonte Sims was driving a Chevy Impala just after 3 a.m. on Sept. 15, when he turned into a parking lot at West Fourth and Taylor Streets and allegedly struck a pedestrian. The victim tried to run away but was struck again, intentionally, according to police.

According to a criminal complaint, officers located Sims in the vehicle shortly after the incident. Officials said Sims admitted to drinking alcohol throughout the night, and a search warrant for his blood showed that he had THC in his system.

The 22-year-old has been charged with attempted murder and willful injury, along with multiple other charges. Witness identifications and surveillance video led to his arrest. He was booked into Scott County Jail on Nov. 18, according to inmate listings. It's unclear why the arrest and incident were months apart.

The victim sustained multiple rib, shoulder and collarbone fractures and underwent surgery in Iowa City. Sims' bond is set at $175,000.
