21-year-old woman killed, eight others injured in overnight shooting after Dallas party, police say

Dallas police sources told News 8's sister station WFAA that the party itself had no issues.

DALLAS — One person is dead and at least eight others are injured after a shooting that happened after a party in Dallas overnight Saturday, according to police.

One shooting was initially reported at about 11:10pm in the 4600 block of Collins Avenue.

Dallas police sources tell WFAA that first reported shooting happened shortly after a block party at Juanita J. Craft Park. The sources say the party itself had no issues.

After the party was over, police say the party moved into a nearby street when the shooting happened.

When police arrived, the gunfire stopped. Officers stayed nearby to monitor the crowd.

At about 1:35 a.m., police say shots were fired again, hitting nine people in the crowd.

Investigators believe one person started shooting, then other people also started shooting.

Police say seven woman and two men were taken to hospitals.

One woman, identified as 21-year-old Coriesha Bradford, was pronounced dead, according to police.

Bradford's aunt, Tyesha Jordan, told WFAA she had just started a new job and started going back to church. She loved to sing and dance, she said, and had an infectious smile.

"My niece deserves the justice. She didn’t deserve to be unalived the way she was," Jordan said.

"She didn’t deserve that…she didn’t deserve that," Leniqua Oudems, another one of Bradford's aunt, shared.

The other eight victims are expected to recover.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said it's believed there were about 45 to 50 people at the scene during the time of the shooting at about 1:35 a.m.

Sunday evening, Garcia announced he'd initiated an internal investigation as a result of the shooting.

“I have many questions about what happened last night that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman, and eight people being injured," he said in a statement.

"While the preliminary investigation determined officers who responded did not observe criminal activity among the people in the area at the time, this event ultimately led to tragic consequences. Our homicide detectives are currently working to determine who was involved in this incident, and how. I’ve ordered an internal investigation to determine if we could have handled the circumstances of this call differently. Every day the men and women of this department work to keep our city safe. It’s important that we gather all the facts before coming to any conclusions. I am committed to the highest level of accountability, professionalism and transparency for the Dallas Police Department.”

There is no information available about any suspects at this time.
