DAVENPORT, Iowa — Probstei Bar and Grill in Davenport in nearly back to normal after being robbed overnight on Monday, April 22. Trenton Stewart was arrested the same day after allegedly attempting to steal the bars safe and other miscellaneous items.
"It'll probably take us a good month to get things back in order," the bar's manager Mandy said. "All he really did was make it extremely inconvenient for us."
According to court records, Stewart tried to write himself two checks with the bar's checkbook but was unsuccessful. Nonetheless, the bar had to open a new bank account, which bar employees said has caused a lot of headaches, including being unable to pay their vendors for a little while.
Danielle Wolfe, the bartender on duty the morning after the robbery, said the community support has been overwhelming.
"There was so many people that came in that I've never seen before, and they said you know, 'We just wanted to come in and support you,'" Wolfe said.
Wolfe and Mandy said some patrons came in for drinks, but others came around simply so the bartenders weren't alone.
"When you've got somebody in the building with you and you know you can trust them and they make you feel safe … that makes a big difference," Mandy said.
Probstei's was able to get its new back account open Friday. They say not everything is switched over yet, but the headache is almost over.
Stewart's preliminary hearing is set for Friday, May 10 in Scott County Court.
