Terronez resigned from the position as part of a plea agreement after an investigation into him providing alcohol to a minor.
The search committee consisted of County Board members Tom Rockwell and Phil Banaszek, rock Island County Sheriff Jeff Boyd, Milan Police Chief Mark Beckwith and local attorney Mary Fuhr.
Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Senko was appointed interim State’s Attorney for 60 days following Terronez’s resignation. The committee recommended leaving Senko in the position until the current term ends November 30, 2012.
The committee cited cost savings to the county along with Senko’s experience and familiarity with the office when making its recommendation.
“Although changes are needed in the office, we feel that the stability of the office is important at this time and any changes in this interim should be incremental,” the committee said in its report.
“We thought it best that the committee not make a selection for the public but to let the voters actually make that selection in 2012.”
