Clinton County Inmate accused of assaulting officer

An inmate held at the Clinton County Jail allegedly assaulted a correctional officer, according to court records.

An inmate held at the Clinton County Jail allegedly assaulted a correctional officer.

According to an affidavit from Clinton County, correctional officers in the Clinton County Jail heard a commotion around 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 coming from the Law Library room in the jail.

The affidavit says that when officers investigated they found Correctional Officer Jessica Wright lying in the hallway outside of the library. She was unresponsive.

Officers say inmate James Douglas was the only person in the room. Douglas told Sgt. Joe Steffen that the officer “laid her hands” on him.

After she woke up, Officer Wright told Sgt. Steffen she was going to move the 39-year-old inmate out of the library. She said Douglas then hit her in the head, and when she reached for her radio he knocked it out of her hand, according to the report.

Court records say the officer had blood dripping from her nose and was taken to an emergency room. Medical personnel diagnosed Wright with a broken nose and a concussion.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas was in court on Thursday April, 11 and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
