COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa — A Burlington man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his gun at a vehicle following a physical altercation in downtown Columbus Junction.
According to a news release, authorities responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Main Street around 4 a.m. on Sunday, May 26.
Officials said a physical altercation took place in which a handgun was displayed. As one of the parties left the scene in a vehicle, police say 25-year-old Elijah Doss, of Burlington, fired multiple shots at the vehicle. A man, a woman and a baby were in the vehicle but were not struck by the gunfire. The vehicle, along with the Washington State Bank building, was damaged by the gunfire.
According to a criminal complaint, police found 11 spent rounds. At least five rounds hit the vehicle, and one struck the bank.
Doss was arrested without incident around 7 a.m. Sunday morning. Doss has been charged with attempted murder, reckless use of a firearm, going armed with intent, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and two counts of criminal mischief.
24-year-old Jonathan Martinez, of Winfield, was also arrested in connection to the altercation and charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication and child endangerment.
The Columbus Junction Police Department and Louisa County Sheriff's Office responded to and investigated the incident.
