ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — A spokesperson for the ASPCA says it is unlikely that the dogs seized during yesterday’s searches in Rock Island and Davenport were anyone’s stolen pets.
The ASPCA says they are caring for 64 pit bulls rescued from what appears to be a dog fighting ring.
“Dog fighters typically breed and fight dogs from specific blood lines,” said Kelly Krause with ASPCA.
Krause advises anyone who has had a pet stolen to file a stolen property report with their local police department to ensure that their family pet is not among the dogs seized yesterday.
“Regarding custody, the dogs are considered evidence at this time as this is an open criminal case. It’s up to the court to determine their custody – which could take weeks or months,” said Krause.
Until then, the dogs will be cared for at a temporary shelter.
