ABINGDON, Ill. — Knox County officials said they have arrested a man in Abingdon after he crashed his car into a residence and fled the scene.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, officials received a report of a man nearly striking a vehicle in the Abingdon Casey's General Store parking lot before entering the store intoxicated.
Shortly thereafter officials responded to the 700 block of East Street in Abingdon to a report of a vehicle crashing into a residence and fleeing the scene. Officials said the suspect's vehicle matched the vehicle description from the earlier Casey's incident.
Knox County Sheriff's Deputies located the vehicle and suspect at a vacant residence and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Alexander Luye.
Luye has been charged with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane change, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to remain at the scene of a vehicle damage crash, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
