GALESBURG, Ill. — Eight staff members at Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg have been injured following a large fight that included several juveniles.
Authorities responded to the detention center just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27. According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, authorities were informed that at least 10 juveniles were battering staff.
The sheriff's office said that what was initially described as a fight eventually turned into a "riot in multiple areas of the facility." Responding authorities were able to return multiple juveniles to their cells. The scene was secured and all juveniles were accounted for.
In total, eight staff members and two juveniles were injured in the fight. The two juveniles were treated and released at the facility. An unknown number of the injured staff members were transported to an area hospital.
The sheriff's office said that the interior of the facility also sustained damage during the incident.
Charges stemming from the incident are forthcoming. The investigation is ongoing.
