ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — One person died after sustaining a gunshot wound, police say.

Shots were reportedly fired near 20th Avenue and 5th Street around 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.  The injured person was taken to the hospital but later died from injuries.

Residents on 20th Avenue were shocked when they heard that shots had been fired.

"It`s scary, it`s weird I've lived here for 33 years and nothing like this has happened here in this block, I know everybody," said Katherione Overstreet, resident.

Overstreet said this incident made her worry about all of the kids that live on the street.

"I worry about the kids, and actually it probably happened about 2 and half hours ago, I`m not sure what time it happened, but they could've been in the middle of something," said Overstreet.

Police have not yet identified the victim.

Anyone with more information about the shooting is asked to call the Rock Island Police Department at 309-732-2677 or Crimestoppers at 309-762-9500.
