MIDDLETOWN, Iowa — Burlington firefighters extinguished a house fire in Middletown Thursday night.
Firefighters received a call just after 6 p.m. about smoke billowing from a Middletown residence. Crews arrived on scene 14 minutes later and successfully extinguished the blaze soon after.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire. First responders said there were no operational smoke detectors on the property.
The cost of the smoke and fire damages to the property is estimated to be $80,000, while content losses from inside the structure is still being calculated.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
