Annual event giving those with disabilities a 'Night to Shine'

The nationwide event provides an inclusive night of fun for those with disabilities. This year's local dance will be at the Bend XPO in East Moline.

On Feb. 9, churches across the world will be giving those with disabilities a 'night to shine' by providing an inclusive and 'unforgettable prom night experience.'

The annual event, Night to Shine, was created by the Tim Tebow Foundation as a way for teenagers and adults with disabilities to have their moment in the spotlight. Host churches across the world will be putting on fun-filled festivities for those in their communities. This year's event in the Quad Cities will take place at the Bend XPO Center in East Moline.

There are plenty of prom-like experiences for attendees, including a red carpet entrance, having their hair and makeup done, arriving in a limo, taking some pictures in a photo booth and getting out on the dance floor with a DJ. And of course, a prom king and queen will be crowned.

According to the Quad Cities Night to Shine Facebook page, registration is full for the in-person gala. However, registration is still open for a virtual celebration starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9. Those interested in attending can register here.

The event is completely free for those with disabilities. In addition, attendees can receive complimentary hair and makeup services at Pure Hair + Beauty Lounge in Davenport. For more information or to book an appointment, click here

People interested in volunteering at the gala can register on the Night to Shine website.
