DAVENPORT, Iowa — Three people suffered minor injuries while escaping a Davenport structure fire through a second-floor window on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

According to a Davenport Fire Department press release, officials responded to a house fire in the 1900 block of Sturdevant Street around 5:12 a.m.

When first responders arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building and began an aggressive attack to put out the fire.

Three people had been in the structure when the fire began and were alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors. All three were able to escape through a second-floor window by jumping from the roof before firefighters arrived.

Crews extinguished the fire and remained on the scene for several hours.

The three residents who escaped were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
