DAVENPORT, Iowa — For any artist, it's the opportunity of a lifetime to have their art in an art gallery, and the Figge Art Museum has sent out a request for artists within 200 miles to send in their best.

Donations are needed for the 43rd annual Rock Island Art Guild Arts Exhibition that's scheduled to start on Feb. 17. Art can be in many mediums from sound and videos, to mixed media and sculptures.

There is a limit of three submissions per artist, and a $35 application fee is required for submission. A panel selected by the museum will then be assembled to critique submissions.

Creators will have from this week to Dec. 15 to submit their creations. Winners will be selected and notified by Mia Laufer by Jan. 10, 2024. If selected, artists will need to deliver their work between Feb. 8 and10.

Prizes up for grabs include:

  • $1,000 for first place overall
  • $500 for second place overall
  • $750 for first place for Sally MacMillan Watercolor Award, $250 for second place
  • $500 Zievel Harris Sculpture Award
  • $300 for Founder's Award
  • $100 for an honorable mention
  • $100 each for children's choice and people's choice

After the awards have been given out some artists will be featured between the months of April and May for artist presentations. Check out the Figge's website for further information on who and when artists will be coming, and if these presentations will be open to the public.
