Arrest made in Kewanee homicide

Jimmy Hollins II died after being shot in the neck in Kewanee on Sunday, March 24.

KEWANEE, Ill. — Update: On Friday, March 29, the Kewanee Police Department announced that 43-year-old Jose M. Valentin of Kewanee has been arrested in connection with Hollins' death. Valentin has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

A man is dead after being shot in Kewanee Sunday night. 

According to the Kewanee Police Department, police responded to the 100 block of Houle Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, for a report of a person lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Responding officers found the victim, 31-year-old Jimmy Hollins II of Kewanee, with a wound to the neck and began performing life-saving measures.

Hollins II was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday. 

According to police, authorities canvassed the area for a suspect and collected statements from witnesses.

Police say this is an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.
