DAVENPORT, Iowa — Earth Day is Monday, April 22, and Public House Bar in Davenport is doing their part by picking up trash around the community. On Sunday, the bar's employees and a team of roughly 30 other volunteers walked up and down the side of the road — filling trash bags with litter.
"It's kind of one of those things where if we don't do it, who's going to?" Public House Owner Johnna Chesney said. "You can honestly kind of see the fruits of our labor throughout the years," she said.
Chesney came up with the idea back in 2017.
"I think there are numerous areas in the community that could benefit from this," Manager Ryan Dunn-Reicks said. "(We find) anything from monitors, TVs. We're finding socks and a whole bunch of wrappers out here...It's kind of sad to see that individuals just kind of walk around and toss stuff out."
For Public House, it's about being more than what meets the eye.
"We feel that we want to be more than just a bar, we want to be a place that gives back to the community," Chesney said.
