Quad Cities Bike Club kickstarting 9th annual Bikes for Tykes donation drive

The organization, working in conjunction with Toys for Tots, seeks to bring families bikes who otherwise couldn't afford them.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Editors Note: Video is from the 8th annual Bikes for Tykes donation drive.

For nine years, the Quad Cities Bike Club has organized its annual Bikes for Tykes campaign. Families with children who register for the Toys for Tots program are eligible to receive a bike.

“Bikes for Tykes empowers our most fragile, high-risk children to dream big, work hard and never settle for excuses. Every dollar shouts -- 'We believe in you,'" said Tina Anderson, Bikes for Tykes media coordinator.

Bike packages distributed by the program are checked to ensure the riders' safety and come with a helmet, air pump, and bike lock. Each package costs around $133, and this year the group has a goal of giving out 125 bike packages.

To achieve this goal they'll need to fundraise roughly $20,000, and will do this through different Quad Cities events like Pints for Tykes in November.

If a family is looking to receive one of these packages, they must have children between the ages of 6-12 and have previously registered with the Toys for Tots program. The deadline to register for Toys for Tots is Nov. 24.
