GivingTuesday | A holiday to give back to the community

Community members in the Quad Cities are encouraged to donate towards local nonprofits on GivingTuesday.

MOLINE, Ill. — Editor's Note: The video above discusses the donation drive happening at the YWCA which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Radical generosity, a concept embraced by different GivingTuesday hubs around the world, a belief that people shouldn't accept the suffering of others because the person themselves isn't suffering.

Coming up on this year's GivingTuesday different Quad City organizations are seeking the help of the community to give back.

Quad City Animal Welfare Center (QCAWC)

As a nonprofit organization, QCAWC relies solely on the community's donations to operate. Without donations, they would be unable to rescue animals and provide them with shelter and medical care.

Currently, people who wish to support the shelter can donate on their website, or follow the link on their Facebook page.

The YWCA

The YWCA is an organization geared towards helping women and families in the Quad Cities through education programs and providing basic necessities like food and clothing.

This year the YWCA of the Quad Cities is opening another branch in Davenport, and are hosting "Stock the Shelves" to replenish their reserves of non-perishable food, hygiene items and laundry supplies.

“The Empowerment Center will not only expand current programs and services like our immediate needs pantry, clothing closet, and continuing education opportunities… but now we can introduce new programs and services that include more educational and career-building opportunities, shower and laundry facilities,” said Deanna Woodall, the YWCA's vice president of development, growth and empowerment services.

The drive will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at their new center located at 1115 Mississippi Avenue in Davenport.

Western Illinois University

State and federal grants can only go so far in funding the over 7,500 students at Western Illinois University.

"GivingTuesday is an opportunity for our friends and alumni to invest in the future of our students and our University while continuing the tradition of philanthropy at Western," said Tim Hallinan, WIU's director of annual giving.

According to the university during last year's GivingTuesday donation drive, they raised over $36,000 from their community, which helped fund current and new projects on the campus. As a whole, this surpassed their goal of $25,000 by 45%.

Friends, alumni and other organizations are encouraged to donate to the university and can direct their donations towards scholarships, campus initiatives or academic programs.

Their donation drive will be held virtually and can be found at this link.

Ronald McDonald House and Adventureland Resort

Ronald McDonald House and Adventureland Resort are bringing fun to families going through medical treatments.

As part of this year's GivingTuesday holiday, Adventureland Resort will donate admission tickets to Ronald McDonald House for each season pass that's purchased. This opportunity allows families to get out of the hospital setting and enjoy some quality time together.

Season passes are currently for sale on Advenureland's website.
