MOLINE, Ill. — Every year, hundreds of people die or are hospitalized from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In an effort to lower those numbers, the Quad City Area Fire Marshals Association and Quad City Area Realtors are teaming up to install carbon monoxide detectors for free.
The Board of Realtors donated $5,000 to help with the initiative and local fire departments will help install the detectors in Bettendorf, Clinton, Davenport, East Moline, Moline, Rock Island and Silvis.
In order to get one, a resident must meet the following criteria:
- Live in the Quad City area.
- Be willing to let the affiliated fire department install the detector.
- Applicant must be a homeowner and living in the property, not a renter.
