ARLINGTON, Texas — A man who was armed with a knife was shot and killed by officers at a Motel 6 early Wednesday morning, according Arlington police.
The Arlington Police Department said officers responded at approximately 1 a.m. to the 900 block of N. Collins Street for a report of a disturbance at a hotel. WFAA crews responded to the scene, which is a Motel 6 across the street from AT&T Stadium.
According to police, two officers arrived, heard loud noises and someone calling for help.
Officers announced themselves before entering the hotel room and found two men fighting in the room, according to a press release.
" One man had what appeared to be cuts on his arm, and the suspect was still holding a knife," police said.
Police at the scene told WFAA the man with the knife was knocking on doors at the motel and one of the guests opened the door. That's when the two men got into a fight, according to police. An employee at the front desk of the hotel heard the altercation and then called police.
Officers ordered the man suspect to drop the knife, but he refused and kept fighting, at which point both officers fired their guns and shot the suspect, according to police.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Officials said in a press conference Wednesday morning that the Tarrant County Medical Examiner will identify the man.
The person the suspect was fighting with was also taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released, according to police.
Arlington police said no officers were injured, but both officers have been placed on administrative leave as investigations into the shooting are underway.
No further information was immediately available. WFAA will update this story as we learn more information.
