ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The YWCA is getting almost $600,000 to go toward the organization's demolition and site preparation.
It's part of an $11 million investment through the state's "Rebuild Illinois" project which pumps money into economic development projects across the state.
The money was distributed to projects that need a lot of money upfront in order to get started.
The YWCA reportedly plans to use these funds to help continue building its new Rock Island location. The money will go toward demolition and site work.
The new facility is being built downtown Rock Island, on the site of the Old Zimmerman Honda building on 5th Avenue.
It will expand daycare services, and will include a pool for swimming lessons.
There were 11 projects that were selected for these grants. These projects are expected to create an estimated 824 construction jobs across the state. In addition to the Rock Island grant, funds were allocated to: Rockford, Chicago, Calumet Park, Alsip, East St. Louis, Peoria, Marion, Wood River, and Rochelle.
