SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois State Treasurer, Michael Frerichs, announced the return of more than $20.6 million to Illinois residents during April through the state's missing money program called I-Cash.
16,662 people got missing money returned during the month including nearly $19.7 million in cash and interest and nearly $955,000 in stock value.
“Putting money back in people’s pockets helps families and our state’s economy,” Frerichssaid. “We are happy to return the money to its rightful owners, who can decide how best to use it.”
According to a press release, during Frerichs' time in office, The Illinois State treasurer's Office has returned nearly $2 billion in unclaimed properties.
