Illinois minimum wage increases to $11 on New Year's Day

This increase is part of a process incrementally growing the minimum wage to $15 by 2025.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois minimum wage will go up starting January 1, 2021, according to the Illinois Department of Labor. 

As of December 2020, Illinois minimum wage stands at, $10 per hour.  On January 1, it will be $11; $6.60 for tipped positions. 

The state minimum wage is set to grow incrementally through January of 2025, when it will reach $15 per hour.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law Senate Bill 1, to gradually increase the minimum wage.  This process started in January 2020, when the wage jumped from $8.25 to $9.25 on New Year's Day, and then increased again in July to $10.
