DAVENPORT, Iowa — The home renovation industry has been on a roll since 2021, with homeowners spending close to $450 billion over the last two years, according to USA Today. 2025 is set to become the third in a row, and it's that interest fueling the first fall Davenport Home Show.
Jamie Slayton ran the inaugural show as manager at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, and she thought it was extremely successful. She says it benefits consumers and businesses, building a repertoire ahead of the project.
"We had people coming out that [came] to gather information last year. [They're now financially prepared] and were ready to go and hit their project," said Slayton.
The 2024 US HOUZZ and Home Study noticed kitchens and bathrooms were two of the rooms most renovated. Refinishing hardwood floors could get you a larger return on investment, but Corey DeHoet, owner of D4 Epoxy Floors LLC., said homeowners shouldn't forget about their garage.
"A lot of people want to sit there and say paint a floor. That paint is going to sit there and chip over time. [Epoxy] is going to sit there and last you 10-15 years, as long as it's taken care of it," DeHoet explained.
Trying to decide if it's the right time to take on a new project can be overwhelming, especially if it's your first time. But businesses say there's no harm in seeking an estimate.
"Get a quote, why not? I mean, at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt to know the price," Veterans Choice Contracting LLC Marketing Director Emily Lewis said. "We know that prices are constantly going up everywhere and material prices are about to go up again with the hurricanes that just happened."
The Davenport Home Show will host their next event in the spring from April 25-27. Organizers say there's still room for local businesses to sign up.
