DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Davenport City Council will decide whether to spend nearly $410,000 on a fully programmable set of lights for the Skybridge, complimenting upcoming downtown development.
"The project is a upgrade, or re-tool if you will, of the antiquated light system here," Drew Booth, a project manager and estimator at Crawford Company said. The Rock Island contractor is recommended to complete the project.
"It's about 20 years old, give or take. We're going to modernize it and make it compliment the new upgrades at the Figge, as well as the Main Street Landing that's coming."
The new lights would pair with the upcoming Main Street Landing renovation, which is expected to cost $16 million.
Booth knows residents have mixed feelings on the Skybridge, but encourages them to remain optimistic.
"It's stuff like this that makes [Davenport] different from every city, said Booth. "To me, it's a cool instillation and I think with the upgraded lighting, it's just going to be such a great bright spot between the Figge. [It will be] a conduit down to Main Street that [will get people] to start to utilize it more."
Crawford Company expects to begin work in the spring. They believe it'll about two months to install the lights.
