John Deere moving some operations from Iowa to Mexico

A company spokesperson said Deere is working to build a new facility in Ramos, Mexico. Some production at Dubuque Works will move there by the end of 2026.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — John Deere will be moving some operations from one of its Iowa facilities to Mexico by the end of 2026.

A company spokesperson said Deere is working on acquiring land in Ramos, Mexico to build a new facility. Production of Deere's mid-frame skid steer loaders and compact track loaders will be relocated from the John Deere Dubuque Works facility to Ramos.

Dubuque Works will continue to make Deere's large-frame skid steer loaders and compact track loaders; utility, construction and production class crawler dozers; crawl loaders and knuckleboom loaders, the spokesperson said.

"The exact number of employees impacted by the moves will depend on overall Dubuque Works production levels when mid-frame skid steer loader and compact track loader production ends, attrition over the next two years, and reassignment opportunities for employees," the company spokesperson said.

Over the past few months, John Deere has announced layoffs for hundreds of workers in Iowa, including in Waterloo, Ankeny and Urbandale. 123 workers at those three facilities just found out Monday, June 3 that they would be laid off effective June 6, according to notices posted under Iowa's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act
