ALEDO, Ill. — Customers returned to Danndee Flowers for the first time in a long time. The flower farm is back for it's fourth annual season and is ready to hit the ground running.
"It's what we've planned for all year," said Kate Danner, owner of Danndee Flowers. "It's all the fruits of our labor. Literally."
Danner says her family started the pick-it-yourself flower farm to get the community to try something new and out of their normal routines.
"We just really want to share the blessing of the farm with everybody else," said Danner. "When you can come and say, 'I picked that,' or 'I harvested that,' I think it's really the experience at the end of the day that people just really enjoy. And we're happy to share that."
Terrie buster heard of the flower business, but never visited the farm. She had some free time with her granddaughter, and the two spent the afternoon assembling bouquets with sunflowers and lavender.
"I've actually seen it for like the last two to three years," said Buster, a Muscatine resident. "But this year I had the time, and got my granddaughter and decided to come out and see what it was all about."
The farm welcomes new and returning faces. It is open from 10am to 4:30pm every Saturday and Sunday until September 15th.
If you're looking to avoid crowds and pick the best flowers of the bunch, Danner suggests customers come earlier in the day.
"If it is going to be a hot day, flowers liked to be picked when it's cooler," said Danner. "I would highly suggest that you come a little earlier in the morning to pick."
Admission is $5, however, you get a free sunflower with your ticket. Additional flowers are extra.
Dandee flowers is also spicing the experience up by hosting a date night for those looking for a special night out. That will be on Friday, September 6th at 5:30pm. Visitors will enjoy a meal on the farm and go home with a special bouquet of flowers. Sign up here.
