Sterling police officers reunite with dog saved from fire

According to Sterling police, Shango has made a full recovery after he was resuscitated by Officers Alex Kraus and Justin Hackbarth.

STERLING, Ill. — A dog rescued from a Sterling house fire in December got to visit with one of the officers who saved his life.

On Wednesday, March 27, Sterling police officer Alex Kraus paid a visit to see Shango, a five-year-old pitbull-bulldog mix. On Dec. 31, an unconscious Shango was pulled from a house fire by Kraus and his fellow officer Justin Hackbarth, and the two were able to resuscitate the dog. Afterward, Shango spent one night at the vet and was given medicine, breathing treatments and eye ointments for cornea burns.

According to a Facebook post, Shango has since made a complete recovery. Officers left their furry friend some treats and a toy basket.
