JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — A healthy baby girl was born in Jasper County Friday, with a little help from a local deputy.
Jasper County dispatchers received a 911 call at around 3:20 a.m. Friday from a man saying he and his wife were driving east on Interstate 80 when she went into labor.
The dispatcher told the couple to pull over near the 174 mile marker to wait for first responders.
An EMT-certified Jasper County deputy was the first to arrive on the scene, and along with the dispatcher on the phone, both helped the mother deliver her baby alongside I-80.
Both mom and baby were doing well after the delivery, and were taken to a local hospital by the Grinnell Fire Department.
