IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa's Big Grove Brewery is planning on giving back to local nonprofits through its Big Grove For Good philanthropy program.
On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Brewery announced it would be awarding six grants totaling $48,000 to nonprofits in Polk, Johnson and Linn counties. The window to apply lasts until Dec. 31 of this year with nonprofits being selected by Feb. 15, 2024.
Brewery co-founder Doug Goettsch said in a press release that being able to provide financial assistance to community nonprofits helps "remove the barriers people face within our communities." It's something the brewery has been doing since opening its doors at its Solon location over a decade ago.
Maintaining connections with area non-profits is how Big Grove has chosen to give back since its inception. Its primary focus has recently been on environmental, equity and equality causes. The press release says charities that showcase how a grant would have a direct impact on their organization or those trying to get theirs up and running will receive special consideration.
In 2022, the Brewery received 40 applications from Polk and Johnson counties. This year, they have added Linn County as well to help extend the program to a new area.

Big Grove Brewery is one of Iowa's top craft beer producers, opening its doors in Solon in 2013. From there, it has expanded across the area, opening taprooms in Des Moines, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
