DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Quad Cities' National Organization for Women shook things up for this year's Women's Equality Day event.

The group decided to rally at Vander Veer Park, inviting political candidates on a local and state level that are against the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"It's not enough to go out and campaign for Kamala Harris," said Leslie Dupree, President of  Quad City National Organization for Women. "You got to get out here to campaign for these state candidates who can change abortion rights in Iowa."

Christina Bohannan is a democrat running under congress in Iowa's first district. She is one of the candidates looking to make a change.

"This is really personal for me," Bohannan. "First of all, I have a 22-year old daughter. And I just can't face the idea that she's going to have fewer rights than I did."

Leslie Dupree organized the rally. She serves as the President of the Quad Cities National Organization for Women. Dupree has pushed for women rights and equality for years, and she believes Kamala Harris can make history this November.

"I worked really hard for Hilary Clinton in 2016," said Dupree. "It was hard to see her lose, but it's a different time. And I think Kamala isn't running because she's a woman. She's running because she wants to help people."

If Harris becomes the 47th President, Dupree believes it's because Harris' qualifications and not her gender.

"It would mean that we have an actual caring, competent President, first off," Dupree added. "The fact that Kamala is a woman, that's just icing on the cake."

QC NOW continues to celebrate Women's Equality Day on Monday. It will host a free screening of "What the Constitution Means to Me". The film will be shown at the Metropolitan Community Church at 7pm.
