Apartment on the Hauberg Estate now available to rent through Airbnb

A newly renovated three-bedroom apartment on the second floor of the Hauberg Carriage House is now ready for occupancy, part-time.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — An apartment on the historic Hauberg Estate in Rock Island is opening its doors as a part-time residence through Airbnb.

A newly renovated three-bedroom apartment, located on the second floor of the Hauberg Carriage House, is now available for rent. The apartment, named "Andrew's Place," honors Andrew Reitz, the longtime chauffeur for the Denkmann Hauberg family. Reitz, along with his wife and three children, once lived in the apartment during his tenure with the family.

The space features three bedrooms, a living room, formal dining room, kitchen, butler’s pantry, full bathroom, laundry room, reading nook and a glass-enclosed sunroom.

Hauberg Estate Executive Director Deb Kuntzi spent five years sourcing 19th-century period furniture and appliances to furnish the apartment, staying true to its historic charm.

“The vision of Andrew's Place has finally come to fruition,” Hauber Estate Executive Director Deb Kuntzi said. “Revenue generated from renting Andrew’s Place will go toward other projects such as The Children's Art Garden and Formal Rose Garden.”

The 2,400-square-foot apartment underwent over $100,000 in renovations during the past 18 months. It is also rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Reitz, making it particularly appealing to paranormal enthusiasts.

"Oh, yeah, he's here. He's here. We know he's here. Yeah, we know he's here," Kuntzi said.
