TORONTO, Iowa — Two Iowa filmmakers behind the 2018 blockbuster hit "A Quiet Place" are back with their latest horror movie that premiered this month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Bettendorf natives Scott Beck and Bryan Woods examine theology and the role of faith in "Heretic", which they wrote, directed and produced.

The film stars Hugh Grant, Chloe East ("The Fablemans") and Sophie Thatcher ("Prospect").

"The thriller tells the story of two young missionaries who are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse," a synopsis of the film reads.

Beck and Woods first met each other at 11 years old, they told Local 5 in a 2023 interview, before both studying at the University of Iowa together.

With generally positive reviews and a 91% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, "Heretic" could join the long list of other A24 horror classics such as "Talk To Me," "X" and "Midsommar."

The duo are also co-owners of The Last Picture House, a specialty movie theater in Davenport.

"Heretic" will be coming to theaters on Friday, Nov. 15.
