Sharing events throughout Quad Cities with News 8's, WLLR's 'Weekend Rundown'

There are many family-friendly events going on this weekend, and we've brought in Dani Howe from WLLR to break it down.

MOLINE, Ill. — The weekend is officially here, and WQAD and WLLR have your top events to check out for Dec 8-10.

Good Morning Quad Cities' David Bohlman and Devin Brooks were joined by WLLR's Dani Howe Thursday morning to go over the must-see events.

Here's this weekend's rundown:

Night of the Luminaria

The city of Galena is lighting over 5,000 luminary lanterns throughout its downtown to celebrate the holiday season.

Many of the businesses downtown will also extend their hours for this event, and may feature living window displays with themes like "The Grinch" or "Santa's Toyshop."

Living window displays will start at 4 p.m., with the luminaries being lit at 5 p.m. From 6 to 7 p.m., carolers will perform at the Grant Park Gazebo, singing a variety of traditional Christmas songs. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the extended hours of the local businesses.

'The Nutcracker'

Ballet Quad Cities is returning to the Adler Theater in Davenport for their annual performance of "The Nutcracker".

Over 60 performers are involved in this production, including live music and dazzling set designs to help bring the spirit of the holidays to attendees.

Shows will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, and Sunday, Dec. 10. Tickets can be found on the Adler Theater's website and can also be purchased at the door.

Season of Light

Augustana College is bringing back its Season of Light show for another year at the John Deere Planetarium and Carl Gamble Observatory. The program will be showing from Dec. 10 through Dec. 16.

This event is an immersive program that includes a narrated story and astronomical imagery projected onto the 30-foot dome. For families, this is also an educational experience that shares how our holiday traditions are connected to the night skies above.

In addition to the planetarium display, the Fryxell Geology Museum will be open to attendees.

While this event is free, space in the planetarium is limited so people are required to RSVP, which can be done here. Each show will open their doors 15 minutes prior, and late arrivals will not be permitted inside.
