Davenport Police Association collecting toys for at-risk families

This fundraiser works with families involved with Family Resources' domestic violence shelters and child advocate programs.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Editor's Note: This video shows the 20th annual Christmas Toy Drive, which was sponsored by Davenport Police and Family Resources. This year's event will be held on Dec. 9 and 10.

Back in 2002, Davenport Police officers started a donation drive after Family Resources was burglarized and the suspects took toys and funds from their Davenport facility just before Christmas. Since then, the Davenport Police Association (DPA) has sought to support families and children receiving services from Family Resources to have a happy holiday season.

Heading into its 21st annual toy drive, the DPA will be stationed outside of JC Penny at NorthPark Mall in Davenport, gathering new, unwrapped toys and monetary donations for these families.

Officers will open their donation drive on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. and remain open until 5 p.m. They will return to NorthPark Mall from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Dec. 10, before dropping off their donations at Family Resources.

Chuck's Tap is also assisting officers by providing its location for a donation drop-off now through Dec. 9 during normal business hours. Chuck's Tap will also host a "Fill the Truck" event from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 9 during which time community members can make donations.
