Icestravaganza cancelled due to forecasted severe winter weather

“We love Icestravaganza so much, but expected conditions are simply unsafe to host the event,” the executive director for Downtown Davenport Partnership said.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update: Icestravaganza 2024 has been canceled due to extreme weather in the forecast, according to a press release from the Quad Cities Chamber.

“We love Icestravaganza so much, but expected conditions are simply unsafe to host the event this year,” Kyle Carter, executive director for Downtown Davenport Partnership, said in a press release.

Previous story:

The Quad Cities winter has returned in full force after Tuesday's snowstorm, and the coming of winter also brings back the annual Icestravaganza festival to downtown Davenport.

During this year's event, themed "Mythical Monsters Under the Sea," ice carvers are using 18 tons of ice to create carvings of mystical monsters.

This event is free to attend and will open Friday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. and continue through Sunday, Jan. 14 at 10 p.m. The carvings will be on display at the Freight House and Beiderbecke Drive in downtown Davenport.

Throughout the weekend during limited hours, visitors can enjoy costumed characters from the Davenport Junior Theatre and a warming station complete with hot chocolate. Festival goers are encouraged to snap a photo and post it on social media using the hashtag #IcestravaganzaQC.

“Icestravaganza is a one-of-a-kind winter event in the Quad Cities that is fun for the whole family,” Alisha Espey, the Downtown Davenport Partnership's program director, said. “We’re excited to bring back the After Glow Party on Saturday night featuring live ice carvings lit by black light with an expanded light show and live mix by DJ Buddha.”

More information on the event can be found on the Downtown Davenport Partnership website.
