Chief Meteorologist James Zahara has led the StormTrack8 team since 2011, but he's served the Quad Cities area since 1992.
A Moline native, James loves teaching kids in the area about the science of weather and forecasting. Seeing how much kids enjoy learning about the weather and showing them the science behind it is very fun!
James also loves being the "go-to" station when severe weather hits. Knowing that he is protecting those in our community and keeping them out of harm's way is something he takes pride in.
The power of severe weather fascinates James. To see the evolution in tech when it comes to tracking storms is also fascinating, and James is proud to say it allows WQAD to be the most accurate in the area.
When he's not at the station, James enjoys golfing, painting, remodeling, landscaping, dining out, and, of course, playing with his adorable dogs. He and his wife have been together for over 25 years and have a wonderful daughter.
And here's a fun fact — James is a fraternal twin!
You can always track the latest forecast or get a great laugh from James' Facebook page. You can also follow him on Twitter. The best way to contact him is via email at james.zahara@wqad.com or through his social media.
