Shelby Kluver named new co-anchor of News 8 at 6 O'clock

Shelby started as a reporter for WQAD in the summer of 2020. She also anchors our 4 p.m. newscast, The Current, and will now join Jon Diaz on our 6 p.m. broadcast.

MOLINE, Ill. — A News 8 anchor is adding another show to her day. Shelby Kluver has been named the new co-anchor for News 8 at 6.

Kluver joins Jon Diaz and Chief Meteorologist James Zahara. The show airs live from 6-6:30 p.m. every weekday. She will also continue to anchor The Current every weekday from 4-5 p.m.

Kluver has been with WQAD since August 2020. Over the years, she has worked as a reporter on weekends, evenings and the early morning GMQC shifts.

Some of her most memorable stories have included extensive coverage of the 2021 John Deere Strike and the sudden closure of Galesburg's Cottage Hospital in early 2022. She's also been a fixture of WQAD's PGA John Deere Classic coverage over the years and now finds and produces two live-guest segments a day on The Current.

Although Kluver isn't new to the News 8 team, we're reintroducing her with a few questions:

What are you most looking forward to about this added responsibility at News 8?

Kluver: "Definitely getting to work regularly with Jon! We sit back to back in the newsroom and you can usually find us sharing science facts with each other. It's been so much fun getting to work on special projects together over the years. And, of course, I'm excited to see even more of James every day!"

What's kept you with WQAD over the years?

Kluver: "I moved here, straight out of college, thinking I would be in the Quad Cities for a few years and then move on. It didn't take long for me to realize how special this community and this station really are. My friends and family know me as the Quad Cities PR person, as I'm always talking about how amazing this place is!"

"Plus, I really believe in the work we do here at News 8. Our team is dedicated to the community, to our new colleagues coming here to learn and grow, and to the stories that matter. We'll always go the extra mile. I like being part of that environment."

What made you want to get into journalism?

Kluver: "I joined my middle school speech and debate team and on my very first day of practice, my coach said I had a voice for broadcasting. I've always loved shooting and editing video, and discovering a field where I get to be curious every day was like hitting a gold mine."

What are some of your favorite things about the Quad Cities?

Kluver: "Where to begin?! I love so much about the Quad Cities - and all of our surrounding hometowns. One of my favorite things to do is take a long weekend to check out a new place, from Macomb to New Boston, Fulton and Mt. Carroll, to Galena, Burlington, Dubuque, West Liberty, Muscatine, Maquoketa... the list just never ends!"

"If you know me, you know I'm a die-hard fan of the Quad City Storm, Steamwheelers and Bandits. I also love our drive-in movie theatres, all of our hiking trails and our coffee shops, breweries and restaurants. There's never a shortage of things to do in the QCA!"

What do you like to do in your free time?

Kluver: "When I'm not exploring local towns or checking out a new café, I'm usually sewing, knitting or hanging out with my cat. Sounds exciting, right?! I also love to cook and try out new recipes and in the winter, you can find me ice skating at our QC rinks."
