RAPIDS CITY, Illinois -- There were several crashes on Interstate 80 causing prolonged traffic back-ups beyond the Interstate 88 interchange on Thursday morning, police say.
Slow-moving traffic appeared to be directed into the left, west-bound lane around 7:30 a.m. on August 1. The traffic back-up developed past Colona around 9:45 a.m.
Jerry Wade, a WQAD viewer at the scene said "multiple vehicles [were] in an accident. Wrecker truck and semi in the ditch, debris all over the road."
There are currently no injuries, Illinois State Police said in a statement. The department is asking drivers to "avoid this area and seek alternative routes while emergency crews process and recover these scenes."
Eastbound traffic was flowing smoothly.
