ELDRIDGE, Iowa -- A Jury has been selected in the trial of a North Scott Junior High student, accused of pulling a gun in a classroom.
After three days of selection, a jury was chosen on Wednesday, July 10. The group consists of 15 people, eight men and seven women; three of those people are alternates.
Police say the attempted shooting happened on August 31st, 2018. The then-12-year-old is accused of bringing a loaded gun into North Scott Junior High School and trying to open fire.
Police say he pulled the trigger, but the gun did not fire because the safety was on.
A teacher was able to disarm the student and the boy was taken into custody.
According to court documents, the boy, who is now 13 years old, is being charged with attempted murder, carrying weapons on school grounds and assault while displaying a deadly weapon.
In December, the case was moved to adult court, but the student is being tried as a youthful offender.
Opening statements are set to begin Thursday, July 11. The trial is expected to last about 8 days.
