EAST MOLINE, Illinois -- A man was injured in an exchange of gunfire with police, according to the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force.
The incident started with a chase on Saturday evening, May 25.
According to Lt. Chris Endress with county task force, an East Moline Police officer tried to pull over a vehicle around 7:30 p.m., but they wouldn't stop, prompting "a short pursuit."
Lt. Endress said a second officer responded and blocked the vehicle near 7th Street and 40th Avenue, just off Avenue of the Cities.
That's when authorities say 25-year-old Darold S. Strunk got out of the vehicle with a gun and fired it toward the squad car behind him.
"Two East Moline police officers discharged their weapons," read the statement from the task force. Lt. Endress confirmed that multiple bullets hit Strunk.
Strunk ran eastward toward a neighborhood across 7th Street with a gun in his hand, said Lt. Endress.
After a short chase on foot, Strunk was taken into custody.
Strunk sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was being treated at a nearby hospital. He was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm with a bond set at $750,000. More charges are pending.
May 28, around 1:00 p.m. Strunk was transferred from the hospital to Rock Island County Jail.
There were no body cameras used to provide evidence. There were dashboard cameras and neighborhood surveillance video.
Police remained on scene for several hours.
