MUSCATINE, Iowa — A fire at a Muscatine home cost about $30,000 in damages.

The fire was called in around 6:50 a.m., Friday, May 3, after flames were visible from the roof of a home in the 1800 block of Lucas Street.  Crews first saw flames coming from a second-story window and starting attacking the fire from both inside and outside the home.

Firefighters got the fire under control quickly, but remained on scene for several hours for an investigation.  During that time, about a quarter-mile of Lucas Street was blocked to traffic.

Fire damage was contained to one bedroom on the second floor. There was water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.  Damage costs are estimated to be about $30,000.

There were no reported injuries.

The Red Cross is helping the family.
